Hello Jazz Battery fans,
October 10 is Thelonious Monk’s birthday, he was born in 1917. We didn’t want to let the occasion pass by without mentioning it…
We’ve been practicing a lot to play a benefit for the New Mexico Wildlife Center this coming Saturday October 17. We can’t wait to put the Monk Minus Monk show in front of people! My understanding is that tickets are sold out at this time, but you may want to check if any new ones become available this week…
On Thursday October 29 we’ll be playing Jazz Night at Lady Duff’s at the Hotel Glorieta, and on Saturday November 14 we’ll be at The Mystic. We surely do hope to see you there…
And we’re working on some other dates through the winter, more there as it develops of course…
Speaking of birthdays, Monk wrote a birthday song for his daughter Barbara that has become one of our very favorite songs to play, called Boo Boo’s Birthday, off the Underground album. We are absolutely inspired by this version from Joe Henderson’s trio with Ron Carter and Al Foster
And finally, we’d like to ask you to pass on the subscribe information about this newsletter to anyone you might know interested in saxophones, jazz, Monk, that kind of thing. We’ll never give your email to anyone else so you’ll never get spam or anything like that and of course you can unsubscribe any time you want.
