If you went to hear Thelonious Monk with his quartet at the height of his powers around 1959, much of the concert would have involved Monk away from the piano, dancing, twirling in circles while the sax, bass and drums swung like crazy. The Jazz Battery Saxophone Trio aims to bring you that experience: three players with deep knowledge of Monk’s compositions and their place in the history of American music bring you an intense interpretation of Monk’s best known songs like Round Midnight and Blue Monk as well as deep cuts like Shuffle Boil and Bye-Ya. With no piano, they lay bare the raw energy and sheer musicality of Monk’s compositions.

Join us for another unforgettable evening of Thelonious Monk at The Mystic Saturday November 14, with some new compositions in the set list!

On Thursday September 10 from 5-8 PM Chris is teaming up with longtime Jazz Battery friend Joseph Salack for three sets of piano/bass duo jazz at Relay. The show is for a celebration of the art of George “Skipper” Captain from Sun & Dust Gallery who is also hosting the exhibition at their location on Canyon Road. We hope you all can come out to hear us and see the work. Find out more at Sun & Dust Gallery
